Automated Invoicing turns the subscriptions sitting in your customer base into booked e-conomic invoices on a recurring schedule — without you copy-pasting line items every month. Most finance teams that turn it on cut their month-end invoicing work from several hours down to a few minutes of review.
Hours back every cycle for whoever runs your billing; invoices go out on cycle day 1 instead of day 7-10 (faster cash collection, lower DSO); zero missed renewals — every active subscription is invoiced; identical line items every month so MRR doesn't wobble from inconsistent descriptions or prices.
Automated Invoicing is a premium add-on to your Metriks subscription, billed separately and activated by our team. It is not bundled with any plan tier — you can add it on top of whatever subscription you have. To switch it on, email support@metriks.dk or book a 30-minute intro and we will turn it on for your account.
Automated Invoicing is the only Metriks feature that creates real, billable documents in your accounting system — that's a different risk profile from read-only analytics, and a different operational footprint on our side. Pricing it separately keeps the base subscription affordable for teams that only want the analytics; teams that turn on Automated Invoicing pay for the value of the automation they actually use.
- An active e-conomic source in Metriks — Automated Invoicing books invoices through your e-conomic agreement. If you haven't connected e-conomic yet, follow Connecting an E-conomic source first.
- Products configured in Metriks — open Settings → Products and make sure the products you bill on are marked recurring with the right default monthly price and currency.
- Recurring subscriptions on your customers — Automated Invoicing bills whatever is in your customer contracts. One-off services on non-recurring accounts are left alone.
Today, activation is handled by the Metriks team rather than a self-service toggle — we use the call to make sure your account configuration, agreements, and approval workflow are set up correctly before any real invoices are generated. Email support@metriks.dk from your workspace admin email, or book an intro directly. We usually have you live the same week.
Until activation, the Settings → Destinations page lists "Automated Invoicing" with a Not Connected status, and Settings → Invoicing shows the add-on prompt with a support link — both surfaces also show the contact line we use to route the request.
Once activated, the most important decision is how much human review you want before invoices go out. Open Settings → Invoicing and choose one of three approval workflows:
- Direct Posting — fully automated. Invoices are generated and posted to e-conomic as booked invoices, ready for delivery. Use this once you trust the result.
- Drafts Only — invoices are generated and sent to e-conomic as drafts. Your accountant gives them a final look in e-conomic and books them. This is the safe default to start with.
- Manual Review — invoices stay inside Metriks awaiting your approval. Nothing reaches e-conomic until you press approve. Useful while you're getting comfortable with the system.
It gives you the automation without giving up the final accountant check in e-conomic. After a couple of clean cycles, switching to Direct Posting is a single click in the same section.
On the same Settings → Invoicing page, the Agreement Defaults section controls the default accrual period on new customer agreements — i.e. how many months an invoice line covers. Common choices are 1 (monthly), 3 (quarterly) and 12 (annual).
Below that, Proration Settings control what happens when a contract starts or ends mid-period. With proration on, a customer who signs on the 14th of a monthly cycle gets a half-month invoice; with it off, you decide a single billing date.
The Invoice Templates section lets you define the line-item templates that show up on the invoices Metriks generates — for example, “{product} subscription, {period}”. Templates are workspace-wide and apply to all automated invoices going forward.
Automated Invoicing runs on the schedule built into your agreements (per-agreement invoice day, not a global cron). When invoices are generated, where you find them depends on the approval workflow you picked:
- Manual Review → invoices land in Invoices → Awaiting Approval. Open each, eyeball the lines, click Approve.
- Drafts Only → invoices land in Invoices → Drafts and as drafts in e-conomic. Your accountant books them from e-conomic.
- Direct Posting → invoices are booked in e-conomic immediately and appear in Invoices → History. The Error tab catches anything that failed.
The first cycle is worth watching closely — open the Awaiting Approval or Drafts tab the day after the first run and walk through every invoice. After two clean cycles, most teams switch to Direct Posting.
- Hours back every month. Teams billing 100-300 subscription customers typically save 4-8 hours per cycle.
- Faster cash. Invoices on cycle day 1 instead of day 7-10 — DSO usually drops by a meaningful amount.
- No missed renewals. Every active contract is invoiced every cycle.
- Cleaner MRR. Identical line items every month removes the noise that makes MRR look like it's bouncing.
- Audit trail. Every Metriks-generated invoice is logged with the source contract and timestamp — accountant- and compliance-friendly.
No. Automated Invoicing is a paid add-on, billed separately from your base subscription. The base subscription covers the analytics (MRR, churn, retention, dashboards); the add-on layers automatic invoice generation on top. Email support@metriks.dk to add it to your account.
Not today — activation is done by our team after a short alignment call so we can sanity-check your agreement setup and approval workflow choice. The call usually takes 20-30 minutes and we have most accounts live the same week. Book an intro.
No — Metriks does not send PDFs to your customers. With Direct Posting, invoices are booked in e-conomic and e-conomic handles delivery using its own configured method (email, EAN/OIOUBL, etc.). With Drafts Only or Manual Review, nothing is sent until your accountant books the invoice in e-conomic.
Yes. The Approval Workflow setting in Settings → Invoicing is a single click; switching from Drafts Only to Direct Posting after a couple of clean cycles is the most common path.
It lands in Invoices → Error with the e-conomic error message attached. The most common cause is a missing product mapping or a customer that was archived in e-conomic — fix the underlying problem and reprocess.
Email support@metriks.dk from your workspace admin email, or book a 30-minute intro. We will walk through your agreements, pick the right approval workflow, and have Automated Invoicing live for your first real cycle.
